Welcome to the Department of Urban Management. This is one of the two departments in the School of Planning and Architecture.  The Department was founded in 2013 and offers four programmes: Bachelor of Science in Geospatial Information Science with IT, Bachelor of Arts in Disaster Management with IT, Master of Arts in Monitoring and Evaluation, and Master of Arts in Urban Management.

The Department’s mandate is to teach and examine the related disciplines as well as spearhead research and disseminate knowledge in the fields of Geospatial Information Science, Disaster Management, Urban Management, and Monitoring and Evaluation. 

Our programmes are structured to reflect the emerging issues in the world today, and consideration of corporate governance principles, management and analysis that influence decision-making for a better society.

The Department has spacious lecture halls and well well-equipped GIS lab with modern equipment which are conducive for practical classes. 

The department aims to among others:

1. Equip students with a firm theoretical background and practical skills

2. Enlighten students on different methods of systematic enquiry applicable to formulate and questions in programmes

3. Equip students with analytical skills in risk evaluation, vulnerability assessment, in planning, and preparedness actions.

4. Train students in the application of geo-spatial analytical skills utilizing GIS tools and techniques;

5. Facilitate students to integrate and analyse data from social surveys, remote sensing, Geographic Positioning Systems and GIS;

6. Train student to collect, document, analyze and communicate information

Research
