Chair of Department

Welcome to the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. This is one of the two departments in the School of Planning and Architecture.  The Department was founded in 2013 and offers three programmes:

Bachelor of Arts n Urban and Regional Planning with IT, Master of Arts in Project Planning and Management, and Doctor of Philosophy in Planning. The Department’s mandate is to teach and examine the related disciplines at as well as spearhead research and disseminate knowledge in the fields of Urban and Regional Planning.

Project Planning and Management, and in Spatial Planning. Our mission is to prepare students to become professional spatial planners who are ready to take on unprecedented challenges in neighborhoods, towns, and cities around the country. This will ensure order, compatibility, accessibility, safety, and aesthetics, resulting in optimal and sustainable use of resources. Our programmes are structured to reflect the emerging issues in the world today, and consideration of corporate governance principles, management and analysis that influence decision-making for a better society.

The Department has spacious lecture halls, Equipped planning studio rooms and well equipped GIS lab with modern equipment which are conducive for practical classes.

The department aims to, among others:

1. Support students to apply theoretical literatures that underpin modern planning and development studies to explain emerging planning issues.

2. Equip students for in-depth research and establish scholarly leadership.

3. Equip students with a firm theoretical background and practical skills in projects and programmes

4. Train students on the principles, concepts, and theories of planning

5. Train students on the different types and methods of planning

6. Prepare students to undertake research and postgraduate studies

7. Facilitate students to integrate and analyse data from social surveys, remote sensing, Geographic Positioning Systems and GIS
